Although almost everyone dreams of it at one point or another, a career as a movie star is pretty hard to come by. If you're a real film buff, your chances may be better working behind the scenes in film and video production. As digital technology continues to advance, jobs are growing for those with training in computer-generated graphics, digital imaging and special effects. In addition, there are lots of opportunities outside Hollywood, for producing educational, government, and corporate training films.

Film and Video Production Opportunities Growing

The arrival of cable television, digital photography, and computer-generated imaging and special effects has led to expanded opportunities in film and video production. In particular, there is a growing industry producing educational and training films for government and corporate organizations. The increasing popularity of documentary and nonfiction films has also created extra film and video production jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that those with training in computer-generated graphics and imagery, animation and digital production processes will enjoy the best prospects for employment in film and video.

One Career Can Lead to Others

Experience is highly valued in the entertainment industry, but how do you get experience if no one will hire you without experience? One way is by working your way to the top. Professionalism, determination, creativity, and in-demand skills can help you start your career in film and video production. Your formal training in areas such as animation, computerized graphics, and film and sound editing can help you get a foot in the door. As technology boosts job opportunities in the entertainment industry, excellent technical skills can help you gain an advantage when competing for film and video production jobs.
