If you're just out of high school and want to be a teacher, or you're already a teacher and ready for a change, teaching English abroad is an exciting alternative. What could be better than traveling the world, seeing exotic places, and making a difference in the lives of students, all at the same time?

The options for your new career read like an inviting menu of international flavors: China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Mexico, Japan, England, Spain, United Arab Emirates, India. The possibilities are nearly endless. And because you'll be immersing yourself in a new culture, teaching English abroad is an experience you'll not soon forget. You can teach in a developed country or third-world village; the choice is yours. Here are just a few of the positions you'll be qualified for when you earn career training in teaching English.

English Positions Abroad

  • Army Bases. Our men and women fighting and serving overseas have families that require a normal educational setting. You'll be teaching American kids just like you would be here--except you're there.
  • Grade Schools. The largest need for teaching candidates abroad is in the schools of the area. You must earn a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification to fill these positions.
  • Business Schools. Many business professionals throughout Asia and South America pay top dollar to learn English from an American teacher. Land one of these jobs for premium salaries.

If you can see yourself basking under a Mexican sun or backpacking across Asia during holidays and breaks, career training through a distance education is your first step. Here's a quick summary of what you need to do to begin teaching English abroad.

Becoming Certified

  • Distance Education. Career training through distance education allows you to continue your present job while earning your certification.
  • Apply for Positions. Select several possible locations and rank them according to your preference. This increases your chances of success.
  • Make a Decision. Compare the offers you get and match them with your career goals. And then start your teaching odyssey.

Teaching English abroad is more than just a career. It's a journey that will change your life forever.
