With a caring, compassionate nature and a nursing degree, you will be set to soar in one of the hottest career fields in the United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nursing is the largest healthcare occupation in the nation, with a 22% increase projected for registered nurses in the next few years. The imminent retirement of baby boomers means more patients and fewer nurses--which means more career opportunities for you.

Consider career training for a nursing degree if you'd like to pounce on the numerous opportunities available to those with the proper career education.

Your Nursing Degree: A Career Education

In order to work in this field of healthcare, you must have a nursing degree. It's also necessary to be licensed by the state in which you practice, which involves passing a national licensing exam. The first step in this process is to get the right career training.

The type of career education you choose to pursue should depend on the amount of time and money you have to invest in your future, as well as where you want to go with your nursing career. For the fast track to a career, consider a certificate, diploma or associate's degree in practical nursing (also called vocational nursing). These programs usually only last a year or two and will qualify you to provide basic patient care services as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

For a career with more advancement potential, consider investing four years in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Many schools offer this training for students who are already working as registered nurses, in RN-to-BSN programs. So if you aren't quite ready for four years of school, this might be a goal to attain after you've gotten some experience in the healthcare industry.

Turn your passion for healthcare and your compassion for patients into a successful career. Enroll in a nursing degree program today.
